I’m Luis Miranda am i’m happy to have contributed in WordPress and this is my final WP Credit program. Over the past 8 weeks or so and my main focused was the Core Testing team by working on testing patches for recent and upcoming WordPress features to make sure it cames as close to perfection as possible! This report will showcase my growth as an engineer, what i learned, and how this experience changed me.
Teams i contributed to
I started with simple dependency updates to have a feel with what testing patches in WordPress looked like and i took my time to look at other documentation, bug reports, test reports, patch reports and the core test handbook for guidance and i manage to test the patch in a way i found helpful and uploaded to TRAC then i took a leap to more complex patches that required specific steps to repoduce/check bugs and so to be even more helpful trying to find a optimal solution for future releases of WordPress
Learning Resources
My main fountain of knowledge was the Core Test handbook then the grunt and other tools that WordPress uses for the development team that i wasn’t familiar with. My mentor help me when i had more general questions about WordPress Credits and setting a timeline to progress better with my assignments.
Challenges!!!!
My biggest challenge i encounter when contributing with WordPress credits was my unfamiliarity with WordPress ecosystem, i had to spend acouple of hours figuring what did what and how WordPress worked from the inside and that was i major knowledge gap that somebody else already using WordPress could tell when something isn’t right or working not as expected but with some time getting used to WordPress and seeing other people and how they describe thier issues in TRAC i could overcome this step back and came out the other side more knowledable.

Key learnings
I learned in my time doing WP Credits program what meant to contribute to Open Source, taking something build and made to last and look into little cracks and propose fixes, also learned to give feedback with constructive toughts and trusted the community to reciprocate when i did something that wasn’t completly right and help me improve helping them and how important is good communications skills when working with a lot of people from different parts of the world.
New Skills gained:
Hard Skills: Grunt, Documentation standards, Report standards, npm, debuging.
Soft Skills: Time management, engaging with contributors around the world, giving and receiving constructive feedback
Personal take aways and next steps
I really enjoyed the time i spend with WP Credits program! One of the most engaging communities i have seen and helpful and undestanting with newcomers! I plan in keeping touch with WordPress team once in a while if i have some free time and in the future being in the big picture with the big contributors helping the newcomers!
